Advanced Imaging Technology for Precise Diagnosis
Your assessment begins with visual acuity testing and intraocular pressure measurement using iCare technology to establish baseline measurements. Our specialists then administer dilation drops to widen your pupils, providing clearer access to examine the back of your eye — this process takes approximately 30 minutes to take effect and a few hours for your pupils to return to normal size. The diagnostic process includes 3 imaging tests. This comprehensive imaging approach allows our medical retina specialists to detect conditions that might be missed with standard examination techniques.
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), which uses light waves to create detailed cross-sectional images of your eye’s internal structures, providing precise measurements of retinal layers and detecting subtle changes that might indicate disease progression.
- Fundus Autofluorescence imaging, which captures the natural fluorescence emitted from retinal pigments to reveal cellular health and metabolic activity.
- Ultra-wide field fundus imaging, an advanced technique that captures detailed images of both central and peripheral retinal areas — up to 200 degrees, covering approximately 82% of the retinal surface area.
Following your diagnostics tests, a copy of your results wil be provided. If your tests have not been requested by a clinician either at Modality LLP or another organisation, a comprehensive consultation can be arranged with one of our specialist Consultant Ophthalmologists who will explain your results clearly and provide expert recommendations for monitoring or treatment based on your individual findings..
Included in the Medical Retina Diagnostic Package
Depending on your requirements, the tests could include any combination of:
A measure of how clearly you can see. This is usually performed using a letter chart and can be performed with and without spectacles.
A measure of intra-ocular pressure (the pressure inside your eye).
The administration of eye drops to widen the pupil to allow your clinician a clearer view of the back of the eye. Typically, these drops take up 30 minutes to take effect, and approximately a few hours for the pupil to return back to normal size.
An imaging technique which uses light waves to produce cross-sectional images of the eye’s internal structures.
An imaging technique which captures the natural fluorescence emitted from pigments within the retina (light sensitive ‘camera film’ at the back of the eye).
An imaging technique of fundus (structures at the back of the eye) which captures detailed images of both the central and peripheral fundus – up to 200◦ (approximately 82% of retinal surface area).
