    Gastroenterology Services

We offer a number of different private and NHS ophthalmology services and treatments. Our team of specialists can support with the diagnosis and management of the following conditions

Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is a common condition, where acid from the stomach leaks up into the oesophagus (gullet). GORD causes symptoms such as heartburn and an unpleasant taste in the back of the mouth.

Indigestion, also called upset stomach or dyspepsia, is a group of digestive symptoms that usually happen at the same time, such as:

    – Pain, a burning feeling, or discomfort in your upper belly
    – Feeling full too soon while eating
    – Feeling uncomfortably full after eating

Occasional indigestion is normal, but sometimes it happens regularly for a few weeks or months. In this case, it may be a sign of an underlying problem, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, or gallbladder disease.

Abdominal pain has many causes, some more serious than others. What feels like a stomach ache may be coming from another organ in your abdomen, or from outside of your digestive system. Our team of specialists can support you if your abdominal pain is unexplained, persistent or severe.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the term for a range of conditions caused by a build-up of fat in the liver. It’s usually seen in people who are overweight or obese. Early-stage NAFLD does not usually cause any harm, but it can lead to serious liver damage, including cirrhosis, if it gets worse.

Having high levels of fat in your liver is also associated with an increased risk of serious health problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney disease.

Coeliac disease is a condition where your immune system attacks your own tissues when you eat gluten. This damages your gut (small intestine) so your body cannot properly take in nutrients.

Coeliac disease can cause a range of symptoms, including diarrhoea, abdominal pain and bloating.

Diverticular disease and diverticulitis are conditions that affect the large intestine (bowel), causing abdominal pain and other symptoms. They’re caused by small bulges or pouches in the walls of the intestine called diverticula.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition that affects the digestive system. It causes symptoms like stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. These tend to come and go over time, and can last for days, weeks or months at a time. It’s usually a lifelong problem. It can be very frustrating to live with and can have a big impact on your everyday life, diet changes and medicines can often help control the symptoms.
